Portable washer compatibility finder

Six questions about your apartment. You’ll get the washer type that fits, the parts you need, and what to check first. If you answer “not sure”, we tell you what to measure instead of guessing.

1What faucet will fill the washer?
2Where will the water drain?
3How many people are you washing for?
4How much floor space can it take?
5Does your lease or landlord allow a portable washer?
6Is there a GFCI outlet (test/reset buttons) within cord reach?

How the finder decides

  • Drain first. If water must rise into a sink, only a washer with a drain pump works. Gravity twin tubs need a drain lower than the machine, like a tub, shower or floor drain.
  • Faucet second. Kitchen aerators with 15/16-27 or 55/64-27 threads take a dual-thread adapter. Bathroom aerators are often 13/16-27 or metric. Pull-down wands shouldn’t carry a washer hose at all.
  • Lease and power can stop the plan. If your lease says no, we don’t recommend buying. Washers belong on a GFCI-protected outlet with no extension cord.
  • Limits. We can’t see your sink. Check the drain height and hose length on the listing before you buy. The finder uses the specs in our guides, not hands-on testing.
